In a year of its launch, Google revealed that Indians are among the top users of Google Shopping feature globally. They said in a statement “We’ve witnessed incredible momentum since the launch of Google Shopping last year. Indian shoppers engage with our shopping experience more often and for longer periods of time compared to other markets.”
Google Shopping is a search-based feature offered by Google that allows users to browse through retail products, locate stores, compare prices and offers, read reviews and ratings, and much more. In December last year, Google had launched ‘Shopping’ in India to allow users to easily filter through offers, review prices from multiple retailers and find products to shop. Inspired by the response, Google has now rolled out additional features. It is integrating 20,000 local Google My Business listings into the shopping experience. The feature is rolling out and expected to be available to shoppers in India early next year.
Expecting about 500 million non-English speaking users in India in the coming two-three years, Google is extending support for Indian languages by facilitating the shopping experience for these users. The product listings on the shopping home page will be available in several Indian languages(in Hindi, Gujarati, and Telugu), starting with Hindi with the merchant side having to make no extra effort into translating the catalog.
